Samuel (p35) states that from 1886, this handstamp was applied by De La Rue, with the permission of the Inland Revenue, to twelve examples of each of the postage and revenue stamps printed for the Inland Revenue. Six examples were placed in a reference book held by the Inland Revenue controlling officers at De La Rue’s works and the other six were placed in the company records.
