Notes on Marginal Settings

Setting 1A has no marginal rule and no control letter. Items must show either watermark cross M or watermark “E” under stamp 9 and at least 2 stamps (10, 11) to the right.

Setting 1B has no marginal rule but does have control letters, all of which are perforated in the lower margin.

Setting 2a has marginal rules and controls and is perforated in the lower margin.

Setting 2b has marginal rules and controls and is found both perforated and imperforate in the lower margin.

Setting 3 has marginal rules with square corners

Controls D, E and F with marginal rules had a rule (i) rounded at corners, (ii) square at corners and (iii) square and bevelled at corners. (ii) and (iii) are scarce with control E.

Controls A-D known with no perf extension hole in side selvedge.

Control Q is known with a single extension hole in the bottom margin from a vertical comb perforator.

X denotes that the item does not exist in that combination
